In August this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales totaled 84,875 units, rising by 35 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the same month, Turkey's passenger car sales totaled 61,753 units, up 37 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in January-August period of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales amounted to 626,766 units, up 46 percent on year-on-year basis.
In the January-August period, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 616,926 units, up eight percent, while passenger car exports decreased by one percent to 376,970 units, both year on year. In the same period, the country exported 205,229 small trucks, up 20 percent year on year. In the period in question, revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports decreased by 10 percent to $13.80 billion, while the revenues from passenger car exports totaled $4.41 billion, decreasing by 10 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In August of the current year, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 59,257 units, while passenger car imports totaled 48,075 units, both rising by 37 percent year on year. In the first eight months of this year, the country's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 410,877, up 42 percent, while passenger car imports reached 339,378 units, rising by 42 percent, both compared to the same period of 2014.
