According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (DCUD), in 2011 Turkey's finished steel production reached 34.9 million mt, up by 21.5 percent year on year, exceeding the growth of 17 percent recorded in Turkish crude steel production.

Of the total finished steel production, 71.6 percent consisted of long steel products, while 28.4 percent was accounted for by flat steel products. In addition, stronger growth was recorded in flat steel production due to new capacities added in 2011. Turkey's flat steel production amounted to 9.1 million mt in 2011, with an increase of 36.9 percent, while domestic production of long steel products rose by 16.3 percent to 22.87 million mt, both compared to 2010.

The association predicts a 10 percent increase for Turkey's total finished steel production in 2012.
