According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in September this year Turkey's total wire rod exports amounted to 72,928 metric tons, increasing by 18.8 percent month on month for the second month in a row, but down 36.2 percent compared to September 2011. In September this year, the revenue generated by Turkey's wire rod exports totaled $45.88 million, decreasing by 44.6 percent year on year.
In the third quarter of the year, Turkey's wire rod exports amounted to 190,104 metric tons, decreasing by 25.8 percent compared to the previous quarter and down 35.7 percent compared to the same quarter of 2011. On quarter-on-quarter basis, since the third quarter of 2011 Turkey's wire rod exports have mostly been on a downtrend except in the second quarter of this year when stable movement was registered.
However, the country's wire exports to the Middle East reached historically high levels in the second and third quarter of this year, amounting to 65,282 mt in the second quarter and 72,974 mt in the third quarter, increasing by 38.6 percent and quadrupling respectively, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the third quarter this year Turkey's wire rod exports to the North America decreased for the second quarter in a row on quarter-on-quarter basis, amounting to 18,884 mt, down 36.2 percent compared to the previous quarter and up 50 percent compared to the same period of 2011.
On the other hand, in the first nine months of 2012 Turkey's wire rod exports stood at 701,191 metric tons, down 17 percent year on year, while the total revenue from these exports amounted to $455 million, decreasing by 21.1 percent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
