According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in the first five months of the current year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 284,790 units, falling by 21 percent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. In May alone, Turkey's motor vehicle sales fell 12.1 percent compared to the same month of 2011, totaling 74,773 units.
In the first five months of this year, Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 193,641 units, falling by 16.9 percent year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 327,644 units, falling by 5.5 percent year on year, while its passenger car exports amounted to 185,493 units, falling by 4.5 percent compared to the same period last year. The revenue for these export sales reached $7.55 billion for total motor vehicle and component exports, falling 2.8 percent, while the revenue of passenger car exports totaled $2.7 billion, falling by 4.6 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first five months of 2012, Turkey's passenger car imports fell by 15.4 percent year on year, totaling 136,500 units. In the given period, Turkey's motor vehicle imports totaled 173,988 units, falling by 19.8 percent year on year.
