In August this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales totaled 74,278 units, increasing by one percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the same month, Turkey's passenger car sales totaled 54,890 units, up two percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales amounted to 569,076 units, decreasing by three percent on year-on-year basis.
In the January- August period of the current year, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 889,656 units, up 26 percent, while passenger car exports increased by 42 percent to 625,010 units, both year on year. In the same period, the country exported 224,421 small trucks, down five percent year on year. In the period in question, revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports increased by 23 percent to $18.91 billion, while the revenues from passenger car exports totaled $7.79 billion, rising by 64 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In August, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 50,439 units, decreasing by five percent year on year, while passenger car imports totaled 40,434 units, down eight percent, year on year. In the January- August period of this year, the country's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 363,951, falling by eight percent, while passenger car imports totaled 294,037 units, declining by 11 percent, both compared to the same period of 2016.
