Turkish metals manufacture turnover down 12.3% in Jan from Dec

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK), Turkey's monthly industrial turnover index in January this year increased by 15.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and was down by 19.7 percent from December 2011, following a 20.2 percent month-on-month increase recorded in the previous month.

In January, the industrial turnover index for the manufacture of basic metals in Turkey improved by 21.5 percent year on year and registered a decrease of 12.3 percent from the previous month, after an 18.1 percent month-on-month increase recorded in December. Meanwhile, on year-on year basis the last decline in the index was recorded in January 2010.

Meanwhile, in January the monthly industrial new orders index for the manufacture of basic metals decreased by 15.6 percent from December and was up 16.4 percent year on year. On year-on-year basis the index has been trending up since January 2010, while in January this year the index switched to a decreasing trend on month-on-month basis after a month-on-month increase of 18.9 percent recorded in December 2011.
