In Turkey, beverage producers have quit using tin cans, switching to aluminum cans, because of oxidation issues for acidic beverages, according to an article by Erkan Celebi in the national daily newspaper Hurriyet.

According to the article, recyclers are happy with this change since the price for recycled tin cans stands at TRY 0.25/kg ($0.177/kg), compared to TRY 1.5/kg ($1.06/kg) for aluminum cans.

Tin containers are still used for some products including oil, canned food and tomato paste.
