In April, Turkey's steel imports increased by 22.5 percent year on year to 1.41 million mt, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the given month, Turkey's billet imports totaled 229,000 mt, up eight percent, while slab imports amounted to 202,000 mt, up 32.7 percent, both year on year. In April, flat steel imports totaled 728,000 mt, up 30.3 percent, while long steel imports amounted to 163,000 mt, up 5.9 percent, and pipe imports increased by 24.6 percent to 51,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
During the January-April period, Turkey's steel imports increased by 30.5 percent year on year to 5.7 million mt. In the given period, Turkey's billet imports increased by 57.3 percent to 1.4 million mt, while its slab imports rose by 35.8 percent to 722,000 mt, both year on year. Also in the first four months this year, Turkey's flat steel imports increased by 27.8 percent to 2.78 million mt, its long steel imports moved up by 1.1 percent to 502,000 mt, and steel pipe imports totaled 151,000 mt, up 3.1 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
