Turkey's steel import value up 20.7 percent in May from April

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in May this year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports decreased by 12.8 percent year on year and was up by 20.7 percent month on month, totaling $1.4 billion. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in fourth place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value. In the January-May period, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $6.6 billion, decreasing by 10.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. 

In May, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $202.4 million, down by 11.1 percent year on year and six percent month on month. In the first five months of this year, Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 16th among the products with the highest import value, were down 3.6 percent to $1.06 billion compared to the same period of 2014.
