Turkey’s slab imports up 125 percent in January-September

In September this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 293,301 mt, rising by 109.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and up 15.6 percent month on month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $96.4 million, up 34.8 percent compared to September 2014 and rising by 14.6 percent month on month.

In the January-September period, Turkey's slab imports increased by 125 percent year on year to 2.4 million mt. Meanwhile, the value of Turkey's slab imports in the given period was $858.63 million, up 53 percent year on year.

In the first nine months, Turkey imported 1,001,767 metric tons of slab from the UK, up 59.58 percent year on year. The UK was Turkey's largest slab import source in the year in question, followed by Russia, which supplied 653,454 mt, rising from 41,003 mt in the corresponding period of the previous year.
