Turkey’s slab imports up 114.4 percent in January-June

In June this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 361,212 mt, rising from 84,068 mt in the same month of the previous year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $122.5 million, up 175.8 percent compared to June 2014.

In the January-June period, Turkey's slab imports increased by 114.4 percent year on year to 1.44 million mt. Meanwhile, the value of Turkey's slab imports in the given period was $538.2 million, up 52.15 percent year on year.
 
In the first six months, Turkey imported 543,691 metric tons of slab from the UK, up 38.49 percent year on year. The UK was Turkey's largest slab import source in the year in question, followed by Russia, which supplied 440,152 mt, rising from 47,628 mt in the corresponding period of the previous year.
