Turkey’s scrap imports fall 2.35 percent in June from May

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in June this year Turkey's steel scrap imports fell by 2.35 percent from May, dropping to 1.7 million metric tons.

The data show that, in the given period, the average import price of Turkey's steel scrap stood at $421/mt.

Meanwhile, in the first half of the year Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 9.98 million mt up 13.63 percent compared to the same period last year. In the first half, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 2.4 million mt, Romania and Russia followed the US with 1.2 million mt and 960,121 mt respectively.
 
In June, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 457,022 mt, down 10 percent, while Russia followed the US with its scrap exports to Turkey amounting to 219,487 mt, down three percent, both compared to May. In the given period, the UK exported 150,993 mt of steel scrap to Turkey, down 3.6 percent, Romania exported 230,214 mt to Turkey, up 20.24 percent, Belgium exported 29,652 mt to Turkey, down 56.7 percent, while Turkey imported 94,699 mt of steel scrap from the Netherlands, up 95.46 percent, 99,616 mt from Germany, up 252.7 percent, and 63,674 mt from Bulgaria, up 90.8 percent - all compared to May this year.
