In September this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 39 percent year on year to 1.01 million metric tons, down 0.3 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $241.3 million, down 62 percent year on year and falling 9.66 percent compared to August.
In the first nine months of this year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 12.04 million mt, falling 18 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 38.7 percent to $3.4 billion, both compared to the same period of 2014.
In the January-September period this year, Turkey imported 2,622,266 mt of scrap from the US, down 12.07 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 1,849,139 mt in the given period, down 17.25 percent year on year.
