In April this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 33.3 percent year on year and was down 11.5 percent month on month to 1.16 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $301.97 million, down 53.07 percent year on year and decreasing by 25.77 percent compared to the previous month.
In the first four months of this year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 5.31 million mt, falling 13.6 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 31.8 percent to $1.6 billion, both compared to the same period of 2014.
In the January-April period this year, Turkey imported 1,091,760 mt of scrap from the US, down 16.67 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's main scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 811,724 mt in the given period, down 0.42 percent year on year.
