Despite many adversities such as the stagnant economy, aggressive competition, declining margins and the additional costs in the Turkish steel industry, in October this year Turkey's crude steel production increased by two percent year on year to 2.77 million metric tons and was up 11.5 percent compared to the previous month. In October, Turkey's crude steel output by electric arc furnaces increased by 2.3 percent year on year to 1.87 million metric tons, while crude steel production by integrated plants increased by 1.4 percent year on year to 898,000 mt.
Meanwhile, in the first ten months of the current year Turkey's crude steel production decreased by 6.9 percent year on year to 26.55 million metric tons. In the given period, Turkey's crude steel output by electric arc furnaces declined by 13 percent to 17.43 million metric tons, while production by integrated plants increased by 7.6 percent to 9.13 million metric tons, both year on year.
In the January-October period, Turkey's billet output decreased by 4.5 percent to 19.69 million metric tons, while its slab output declined by 13.1 percent to 6.86 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis.
