In the first five months of the current year,
Turkey's steel imports decreased by 8.1 percent to 5.56 million mt, while the value of these imports fell six percent to $4.95 billion, both on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In the given period,
Turkey's
billet imports totaled 1.32 million mt, up 0.9 percent, its
slab imports decreased by 26.1 percent to 588,000 mt, while its flat steel imports totaled 2.69 million mt, down 10.5 percent, long steel imports amounted to 613,000 million mt, up 2.7 percent, and steel
pipe imports decreased by four percent to 176,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
On the other hand, in May alone,
Turkey's steel imports decreased by 0.3 percent year on year to 1.19 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $1.05 billion, down 3.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the given period,
Turkey's
billet imports increased by 36.2 percent to 413,000 mt, while its
slab imports decreased by 52.9 percent to 29,000 million mt, both year on year. Also in May this year,
Turkey's flat steel imports decreased by 7.8 percent to 516,000 mt, its long steel imports decreased by 8.8 percent to 117,000 mt and steel
pipe imports totaled 29,000 mt, down 23.7 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
