Turkey’s steel import volume up 16.9 percent in Q1

According to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in the first quarter of this year Turkey's steel imports increased by 16.9 percent year on year to 5.02 million mt, though the value of these imports decreased by 8.2 percent to $2.87 billion, both compared to the same quarter last year.
 
In the first quarter of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports maintained its sharp increase observed in 2015, rising by 15.5 percent on year-on-year basis to 1.95 million mt, and Turkey’s flat steel imports increased by 15.2 percent year on year to 2.37 million mt. In the first quarter, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 89 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 103 percent in the same quarter last year.
