Turkey’s steel import volume up 13.3 percent in January-April

According to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in the January-April period of this year Turkey's steel imports increased by 13.3 percent year on year to 6.46 million mt, though the value of these imports decreased by 9.4 percent to $3.73 billion, both compared to the same period last year.
 
In the first four months of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by 8.4 percent to 2.30 million mt, with a value of $643 million, down by 29 percent, both on year-on-year basis.  In the January-April period of this year, the finished steel imports of the country rose by 15.5 percent to 3.79 million mt, with the value of these imports falling by 15.5 percent to $1.98 billion, both year on year. In the given period, Turkey’s flat steel imports continued to increase with a 14.9 percent rise year on year to 3.2 million mt. 
 
In January-April period of this year, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 90 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 105 percent in the same period last year.
 
In April this year, Turkey's total steel imports grew by 2.4 percent to 1.4 million mt, with a value of $867 million, down 12.9 percent, both year on year. In the same month, the semi-finished imports of the country decreased by 19.5 percent to 347,000 mt, with their value declining by 38.3 percent to $103 million, both year on year. In April, the finished steel imports of Turkey rose by 11 percent to 990,000 mt, with a value of $507 million, down by 17 percent, both compared to April 2015. 
 
In April this year, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 97 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 111 percent in the same month last year.
