In May this year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 22.1 percent to 1.18 million mt, year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the given month, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 40.4 percent to 324,284 mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports fell by eight percent to 678,662 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In May, the long steel product imports of the country were down by 34.7 percent to 99,286 mt, year on year.
In May, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 121 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 98 percent in the same month of 2016.
In the first five months of this year, Turkey's steel imports continued their declining trend. In the given period, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 20.3 percent to 6.36 million mt, year on year.
In the January-May period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports fell by 30.7 percent to 1.97 million mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports decreased by 13.1 percent to 3.42 million mt, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the January-May period of this year, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 122 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 91 percent in the same period of 2016.
