Turkey’s steel import value up five percent in H1

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in June this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.74 billion, decreasing by 1.6 percent year on year and down five percent compared to May. Iron and steel ranked third among the most imported products of the country in the given month.

Meanwhile, in June imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 18th among the products with the highest import value, fell by 13.8 percent compared to June 2011, amounting to $187.7 million.

In the first half of 2012, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $10.2 billion, increasing by five percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.09 billion, down by 13.6 percent year on year.
