Turkey’s steel import value up 15.7 percent in May

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in May this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.83 billion, increasing by 15.7 percent year on year and up 2.6 percent compared to April. Iron and steel ranked third among the most imported products of the country in the given month.
 
Meanwhile, in May imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 18th among the products with the highest import value, fell by 3.9 percent compared to May 2011, amounting to $216 million.
 
In the first five months of 2012, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $8.4 billion, increasing by 6.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $902.7 million, down by 13.5 percent year on year.
