Turkey's steel import value down 18 percent in January-August

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in August this year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports decreased by 5.7 percent year on year, totaling $1.06 billion. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in fifth place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value. In the January-August period of this year, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $8.52 billion, decreasing by 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
In August, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 14th among the products with the highest import value, amounted to $232.99 million in value, increasing by 17.7 percent year on year. In the first eight months of this year, the value of Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel were up 17.1 percent to $2.05 billion compared to the same period of 2015.
