Turkey’s steel exports down 15.6 percent in Nov from Oct

In November this year, Turkey's total steel product exports amounted to 1.5 million metric tons, falling 15.6 percent month on month and up 14.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, with a total revenue of $1.3 billion, increasing 5.9 percent from November 2011 and down 11.3 percent compared to the previous month, according to the Turkey's Steel Exporters' Association (CIB).

The Middle East was Turkey's largest destination for steel exports in November this year, receiving 576,000 metric tons, while it was followed by the EU countries with 235,000 mt and by North Africa with 220,000 mt. The most exported steel product in terms of volume in the month in question was rebar amounting to 610,000 mt, followed by 203,000 mt of steel pipe, 140,000 mt of steel section, 138,000 mt of hot rolled flat steel and 122,000 mt of steel billet.

Meanwhile, in the first 11 months of the current year Turkey's total steel product exports amounted to 18.2 million metric tons, up 11.4 percent compared to the same period last year. The revenue generated by these exports totaled $14.3 billion, increasing by 3.1 percent year on year.

In the first 11 months of the current year, the Middle East was Turkey's largest destination for steel exports, receiving 7.4 million metric tons. In the given period, Turkey's steel product exports to the EU amounted to 2 million mt, while North Africa imported 1.9 million mt of steel products from Turkey.

In the first 11 months, exports of rebar, which ranks first among the country's exported steel products in terms of volume, amounted to 8.04 million mt, while Turkey exported 2.85 million mt of steel billet, 1.7 million mt of steel pipe, 1.55 million mt of steel section and 1 million mt of wire rod in the period in question.
