In the January-February period this year, Turkey's steel exports increased by 13.5 percent year on year to 3.19 million mt, while the value of these exports moved up by 26.1 percent year on year to $2.04 billion, according to the data released by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the given period, Turkey's long steel exports rose by 6.2 percent to 1.95 million mt, while flat steel exports increased by 39.5 percent to 523,900 mt, both on year-on-year basis.
In the first two months, the country’s semi-finished steel exports grew by 296.4 percent to 126,700 mt, year on year.
In February this year, Turkey's steel exports increased by 14.3 percent to 1.72 million mt, with a value of $1.09 billion, up 26.4 percent, both year on year.
The rising trend in flat steel exports has continued in February without losing momentum. In the given month, Turkey's flat steel exports rose by 64 percent to 322,500 mt, while the long steel product exports of the country increased by 4.4 percent to 1.02 million mt, both compared to the same month of 2016.
China’s withdrawal from the billet market and the recovery seen in billet prices contributed to the rise of Turkey’s billet exports. In the given month, the country’s semi-finished steel exports increased by 248.6 percent to 81,700 mt, year on year.
