Turkey’s steel export value up 53 percent in Q1

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in the first quarter of this year Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled $2.63 billion in value, increasing by 52.9 percent year on year, while exports of articles of iron and steel rose by 23.3 percent compared to January-March 2010, amounting to a value of $1.35 billion.
 
In the given period, Turkey's steel import value came to $4.8 billion, up 41.8 percent, while its imports of articles of iron and steel moved up by 52.2 percent to $596.45 million, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
 
Meanwhile, in March this year, Turkey increased its iron and steel exports in value by 24.2 percent to $990.29 million, up six percent month on month, while its iron and steel imports hit $1.7 billion, rising by 23.3 percent year on year and up 6.75 percent month on month.
