Turkey’s steel export value up 28.5 percent in 2011

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in December 2011 Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled $952.8 million, increasing by 28.1 percent year on year and up 13 percent over November. Iron and steel ranked third among the products with the highest export value of the country in December, while motor land vehicles had the highest export value.

Meanwhile, exports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked seventh among the products with the highest export value, rose by 17.8 percent month on month and were up 6.1 percent compared to December 2010, amounting to $532.8 million.

In the whole year of 2011, the country's iron and steel exports stood at $11.2 billion, while its exports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $5.76 billion, increasing by 28.5 percent and up 18.8 percent respectively, both compared to 2010.
