Turkey’s steel billet exports up 19.85 percent in August

According to the statistics released by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in August Turkey's total steel billet exports amounted to 226,400 metric tons, decreasing by 40.03 percent month on month, but increasing by 19.85 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $91.29 million, down 57.11 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and down 37.82 percent over July this year.

In August, the average export price of Turkish steel billet amounted to $403/mt, up $14/mt or 3.67 percent from July levels, but indicating a decrease of $723/mt or 64.2 percent from $1,127/mt in August 2008.

On the other hand, in the January-August period of the current year, Turkey's steel billet exports slid 30.61 percent year on year to 1.33 million mt, totalling a value of $524 million, down 67.61 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
