According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 27.7 percent compared to the previous month and were up 35.6 percent compared to May 2011, amounting to 40,334 metric tons. The value of these imports was $106.7 million, increasing by 24.9 percent as compared to April this year and up 22.4 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first five months of the current year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 163,261 metric tons, increasing 10 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In May this year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan amounted to 10,046 metric tons, increasing by 33.5 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of stainless flat steel imports in May this year was South Korea with 7,717 metric tons, up 53.5 percent compared to the same month of 2011.
