Turkey’s slab imports up 61.4 percent in 2015

In December last year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 120,053 mt, falling by 50 percent both year on year and month on month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $31.6 million, down 74.7 percent compared to December 2014 and falling by 55.4 percent month on month.


                          
In 2015, Turkey's slab imports increased by 61.4 percent year on year to 2.93 million mt. Meanwhile, the value of Turkey's slab imports in the given period was $1.01 billion, up 6.75 percent year on year.
 
Last year, Turkey imported 1,103,868 metric tons of slab from the UK, up 12.17 percent year on year. The UK was Turkey's largest slab import source in the year in question, followed by Russia, which supplied 693,981 mt, rising from 255,073 mt in the given year.
