In May this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 132,889 mt, rising by 63.6 percent year on year and up 24.5 percent compared to April, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $58.4 million, up from $22 million in May 2016 and rising by 24.8 percent month on month.
In the first five months, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 915,880 mt, up 40.6 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 125 percent to $368.3 million, both year on year.
In the January-May period this year, Turkey imported 423,578 metric tons of slab from Russia. Russia was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Brazil, which supplied 293,496 mt.
