In March this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 274,330 mt, rising by 225 percent year on year and up 62 percent compared to February, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $110.9 million, up from $20.3 million in March 2016 and rising by 66.7 percent month on month.
In the first quarter, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 676,226 mt, up 23.3 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 93.8 percent to $263.1 million, both year on year.
In the January-March period this year, Turkey imported 301,629 metric tons of slab from Russia. Russia was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Brazil, which supplied 293,496 mt.
