Turkey’s slab imports up 103.5 percent in January-October

In October this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 240,599 mt, rising by 6.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and down 18 percent month on month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $71 million, down 39 percent compared to October 2014 and falling by 26.3 percent month on month.


 
In the January-October period, Turkey's slab imports increased by 103.5 percent year on year to 2.63 million mt. Meanwhile, the value of Turkey's slab imports in the given period was $929.6 million, up 37 percent year on year.
 
In the first ten months, Turkey imported 1,051,895 metric tons of slab from the UK, up 42.09 percent year on year. The UK was Turkey's largest slab import source in the year in question, followed by Russia, which supplied 653,454 mt, rising from 113,229 mt in the corresponding period of the previous year.
