Turkey's slab imports down 20.9 percent in 2014

In December last year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 240,858 mt, down 14.26 percent month on month and decreasing by 13.78 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $125.48 million, down 12.17 percent month on month and decreasing by 11.44 percent compared to December 2013. According to the data for December last year, the average price for Turkish slab imports in the given month was $520.97/mt, increasing $12.38/mt from the average of $508.59/mt recorded in the previous month.
 


In the whole of 2014, Turkey's slab imports decreased by 20.85 percent year on year to 1.82 million mt. Meanwhile, the value of Turkey's slab imports in the same year was $946.11 million, down 18.41 percent year on year.
 
In 2014, Turkey imported 984,099 metric tons of slab from the UK, up 23.36 percent year on year. The UK was Turkey's largest slab import source in the year in question, followed by Ukraine, which supplied 295,653 mt, down 13.56 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the same period, Turkey's slab imports from Russia, which was the top slab import source for Turkey in 2013, decreased by 68.32 percent year on year to 255,073 mt.
