In December last year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 4.6 percent year on year to 1.66 million metric tons and was down 12.6 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $391.8 million, up 16.5 percent year on year and falling by 8.5 percent compared to November.
Last year, Turkey's scrap imports increased by nine percent to 17.7 million mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 7.6 percent to $3.96 billion, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
In 2016, Turkey imported 3,260,729 mt of scrap from the US, down 15.07 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 2,605,859 mt in the given period, up 6.13 percent year on year.
