Turkey’s scrap imports up 9.7 percent in January-February

In February this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 14.3 percent year on year to 991,786 metric tons and was down 34.7 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $271.7 million, up 20.6 percent year on year and down 30.6 percent compared to January.

In the first two months of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 2.52 million mt, rising by 9.7 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 47.5 percent to $663.5 million, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 386,082 mt of scrap from the US, down 25.87 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Netherlands which supplied 381,282 mt in the given period, up 6.57 percent year on year.
