In April this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 21.3 percent year on year to 1.67 million metric tons and was down four percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $452.4 million, up 70.3 percent year on year and down 4.6 percent compared to March.
In the first four months of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 5.93 million mt, rising by 7.2 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 47.9 percent to $1.6 billion, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey imported 979,356 mt of scrap from the US, down 13.59 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 856,579 mt in the given period, down 5.53 percent year on year.
