In October this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 15.8 percent year on year to 1.57 million metric tons, but declined by six percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $598 million, down 15 percent year on year and decreasing by 5.6 percent compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of this year Turkey imported 16.25 million mt of scrap, down 1.6 percent, with a value of $6.15 billion, down 2.4 percent, both year on year.
In the first 10 months, Turkey imported 3.25 million mt of scrap from the US, 29 percent higher year on year, with the US ranking first among Turkey's main scrap import sources, ahead of Russia which supplied 2.46 million mt in the given period, up 49.7 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in October this year US was the leading source for Turkey's scrap imports, supplying 271,276 mt, down 48.8 percent year on year.
