In August this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 33.8 percent year on year to 1.02 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $267.11 million, down 54 percent year on year.
In the first eight months of this year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 11.03 million mt, falling 15.22 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 35.7 percent to $3.16 billion, both compared to the same period of 2014.
In the January-August period this year, Turkey imported 2,407,890 mt of scrap from the US, down 7.78 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 1,658,553 mt in the given period, down 17.53 percent year on year.
