In May this year,
Turkey's
scrap import volume decreased by 7.4 percent year on year and was up 46.5 percent month on month to 1.7 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $459.88 million, down 33 percent year on year and rising by 52.3 percent compared to the previous month.
In the first five months of this year,
Turkey's
scrap imports amounted to 7.01 million mt, falling 12.2 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 32 percent to $2.06 billion, both compared to the same period of 2014.
In the January-May period this year,
Turkey imported 1,466,719 mt of
scrap from the US, down 7.95 percent year on year, with the US ranking as
Turkey's leading
scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 1,014,613 mt in the given period, down 12.62 percent year on year.
