According to the report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), last year
Turkey's
scrap imports decreased by 12 percent to 19.72 million mt, while these imports were valued at $7.51 billion, down 20 percent, both compared to 2012. Despite the decline in
scrap imports,
Turkey's domestic
scrap supply volume increased by 7.4 percent year on year, amounting to 10.68 million mt.
In the whole of last year,
Turkey's
scrap imports from European countries decreased by eight percent to 10.62 million mt, while imports from the US contracted by 18 percent to 5.16 million mt, imports from CIS countries fell 14 percent to 2.46 million mt and
scrap imports from the Mediterranean declined to 633,000 mt, down seven percent, all compared to 2012.
Last year,
Turkey's
scrap usage decreased by 6.1 percent to 30.40 million mt, including 28.18 million mt of
scrap usage by electric arc furnaces, down 6.9 percent, and 2.22 million mt of
scrap consumption by blast furnaces, up 6.5 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
