In January this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 29.5 percent year on year and was up 6.6 percent month on month to 1.37 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $437.44 million, down 42.9 percent year on year and increasing by 0.75 percent compared to the previous month.
In January, Turkey imported 424,703 mt of scrap from the UK, 143.6 percent higher year on year, with the UK replacing the US as Turkey's main scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 214,981 mt in the given month, down 14.8 percent year on year.
