According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in January this year Turkey's rebar (including round bar) exports amounted to 553,020 metric tons, decreasing by 29 percent compared to the previous month and down 11.6 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $325.3 million, falling by 29.4 percent compared to the previous month and down 18.5 percent from January 2012.
In January of the current year, Turkey's rebar exports to the US amounted to 13,521 mt, recording a very strong fall of 88.9 percent compared to the previous month and down 73.7 percent year on year. However, the country's rebar exports to the European Union amounted to 61,568 mt in January, hitting the highest level recorded since January 2009. Meanwhile, for the full year of 2012, Turkey's rebar exports stood at 8.3 million metric tons, up 20.2 percent year on year, while the total revenue from these exports amounted to $5.2 billion, increasing by 14.2 percent as compared to 2011. During last year, Turkey's rebar exports to the US, one of the largest rebar export destinations of Turkey, almost doubled, while rebar exports to the Middle East increased almost 11.5 percent and rebar exports to North Africa rose almost 50 percent, all compared to the previous year.
