Turkey's pig iron imports up 17.2 percent in January-May

In May this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 117,660 mt, increasing by 18.2 percent month on month and up 58.06 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $49.29 million, up 17.33 percent month on month and increasing by 53.49 percent compared to May 2013. According to the data for May this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $418.94/mt, decreasing from the average of $422.05/mt recorded in April.

 

Meanwhile, in the first five months of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 17.17 percent to 472,468 mt, while the value of these imports rose 18.79 percent to $201.12 million, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first five months of this year, Turkey imported 298,058 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 13.69 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 144,939 mt, up 32.32 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in May alone, Ukraine was Turkey's leading source of pig iron imports, supplying 81,619 metric tons.
