Turkey's pig iron imports down 7.9 percent in Q1

In March this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 51,999 mt, decreasing by 20.10 percent month on month and down 39.11 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $22.92 million, down 16.67 percent month on month and decreasing by 36.39 percent compared to March 2013. According to the data for March this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $440.79/mt, increasing from the average of $422.64/mt recorded in February.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports decreased by 7.94 percent to 255,265 mt, while the value of these imports fell 4.26 percent to $109.82 million, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first quarter this year, Turkey imported 162,455 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, down 7.18 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 78,744 mt, down 10.59 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in March this year, Russia was Turkey's leading source of pig iron imports, supplying 34,898 metric tons.
