In December last year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 22,857 mt, increasing by 236.11 percent month on month and up 48.34 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $91.01 million, up 233.70 percent month on month and increasing by 58.91 percent compared to December 2012. According to the data for December last year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $410.23/mt, decreasing from the average of $413.18/mt recorded in November.
In the whole of last year, Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 982,580 mt, decreasing by 28.62 percent, with a value of $414.09 million, down 33.63 percent, both year on year.
Last year, Turkey imported 614,291 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, down 34.04 percent year on year. However, Ukraine remained Turkey's largest pig iron source in the year in question, followed by Russia which supplied 299,838 mt, down 19.75 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the given year Turkey's pig iron imports from South Africa totaled 48,371 mt, up 9.02 percent compared to 2012.
