Turkey's pig iron imports down 12.7 percent in September from August

In September this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 59,460 mt, decreasing by 12.7 percent month on month but up 23.4 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $25.41 million, down 10.5 percent month on month but increasing by 19.4 percent compared to September 2013. According to the data for September this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $427.26/mt, increasing from the average of $416.8/mt recorded in August.

Meanwhile, in the first nine months of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 15 percent to 739,869 mt, while the value of these imports rose 15 percent to $315.08 million, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first nine months of this year, Turkey imported 436,812 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 10.1 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 265,156 mt, up 41.2 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in September alone, Russia was Turkey's leading source of pig iron imports, supplying 47,061 mt.
