Turkey’s pig iron imports double in 2011

According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in December 2011 Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 181,811 metric tons, compared to 86,010 mt recorded in the previous month and up 45.4 percent compared to the same month of 2010.

In 2011, Turkey imported 1.14 million mt of pig iron, double compared to 557,398 mt recorded in 2010, with an average import price of $526/mt. The average price of pig iron in 2010 was $455/mt according to the TUIK data.

Turkey's top pig iron sources in 2011 were Ukraine and Russia which respectively exported 497,659 mt and 494,511 mt of pig iron to Turkey, increasing by 103 percent and 91 percent respectively, both compared to 2010.
