Turkey's pig iron imports almost double in April from March

In April this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 99,543 mt, increasing by 91.43 percent month on month and up 93.26 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $42.01 million, up 83.29 percent month on month and increasing by 86.79 percent compared to April 2013. According to the data for April this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $422.05/mt, decreasing from the average of $440.79/mt recorded in March.

Meanwhile, in the first four months of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 7.91 percent to 354,808 mt, while the value of these imports rose 10.66 percent to $151.83 million, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first four months of this year, Turkey imported 216,438 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 5.51 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 110,914 mt, up 7.83 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in April this year, Ukraine was Turkey's leading source of pig iron imports, supplying 53,984 metric tons.
