Turkey's motor vehicle output up 83 percent in February

According to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD), in February this year Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 84,464 units, increasing by 83 percent year on year and up by 10.32 percent over the month of January.

In February, Turkey's passenger car output totaled 46,365 units - up 54 percent, its commercial vehicle production reached 36,156 units - up 146 percent, while tractor production amounted to 1,943 units - up 47 percent, all compared to February 2009.

The significant increases on year-on-year basis in all segments of automotive production arose because of the base effect, as underlined by the OSD.

The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry in February was 65 percent, up from 60 percent recorded in January.

Meanwhile, in the first two months of this year, the country's total motor vehicle output amounted to 162,823 units, up 89 percent year on year: passenger car output totaled 93,175 units, while commercial vehicle production stood at 65,911 units, increasing respectively by 72 percent and 122 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
