Turkey's motor vehicle output resumes rising trend in May

According to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD), in May this year Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 100,987 units, increasing by 15 percent year on year and up by 9.46 percent over the month of April. Thus, the country's motor vehicle output resumed its rising trend seen earlier in 2010 following a month-on-month decline of 8.58 percent recorded in April.
 
In May, Turkey's passenger car output totaled 57,433 units - up nine percent, its commercial vehicle production reached 40,759 units - up 18 percent, while tractor production amounted to 2,795 units - up 168 percent, all compared to May 2009.
 
The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry in May this year was 78 percent, up from 71 percent recorded in April.
 
Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, the country's total motor vehicle output amounted to 456,992 units, up 47 percent year on year: passenger car output totaled 257,822 units, while commercial vehicle production reached 187,806 units, increasing respectively by 34 percent and 66 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
